While is a great resource for learning about your family history, a grandparent’s memories can be even better.

As a Video Biographer, I ask well over 100 questions in an interview. Below are a few you can ask your own grandparents to learn more about their life story and your family history.

  3. Where were you born?

  6. What did your mother do during the day?
  7. What was your father’s name?
  8. Where was he from?
  9. What did your father do for a living?
  10. Do you know how your parents met?
  11. Do you have any siblings?
  12. List their names in the order of birth.
  13. Where did you grow up?
  14. Describe the neighborhood/s.
  15. What school/s did you attend

  17. How did you spend your free time?
  18. Did you have any chores?
  19. How would you describe yourself as a child?
  20. How did you spend your summers?
  21. What role did religion play in your life?
  22. Did you have any summer or after school jobs?
  23. Was there any event in your early years that shaped who you are today?
  24. Did you go on to college?
  25. How did you pay for school? How much was it?
  26. How did you decide on you career?
  27. Describe your career.
