I’m excited to start my next project with a trip down south to capture a family’s history. The weather has cooled in Chicago so the warmth of the Alabama sun is definitely welcome. The thought of meeting a new family and helping preserve their story in a Legacy Video fills me with excitement once again!
The Checklist
The time leading up to such trips can be frenzied. My video camera? Check. My mics and lavelier? Check. My tripod? Check. My interview questions? Check. My notepad and laptop? Check.
As a Legacy Video producer, I am not a typical work traveler; I have my carry-ons and the tools of my trade, but the load is always worth it. Eventually, I will land at my destination and meet new people who trust me to capture their family story.
I am both a filmmaker and a true intercessor to families who wish to celebrate a their story. In every case, my goal is to create a unique sense of each family in a documentary they can pass on for generations.
Family Stories
While families may seem somewhat similar, it is their history and the narrative threads that make each unique. It is the stories that give a crinkle to their eyes or irrepressible mirth that I am there to catch. Such moments encapsulate the true character of individuals, the significance of the moment or the history to remember later.
Getting ready to travel is a reminder that I chose a job that will never grow stale: as long as there are people, there will be families. I can’t wait to discover the truest treasures of a family in this latest journey!
